Tactile Mixed Media Sandstone Arch in Bas Relief
mixed media · sandstone arch · relief texture · sculptural painting
A tactile mixed media landscape painting on wood panel in a 16:9 aspect ratio, arranged as a wide website hero image. Using pumice paste, natural desert sand, and heavy acrylic mediums, a colossal wind-carved sandstone arch anchors the left-center frame, its sweeping curving span rendered in sculptural bas-relief with coarse grit and deep scored fissures. Three-quarter directional sunlight strikes the top rim while casting rich earthen shadows across the underside, which radiates warm reflected orange light. Through and beside the monumental arch, distant undulating shale mounds ripple horizontally across the rightward panorama in bands of rose madder and chalky celadon. The wide vista flows under an expansive pale lavender sky, providing clean horizontal breathing space balanced against the rugged, tactile foreground stone.
