Cold Wax and Scraped Oil Seascape with Submerged Strata
cold wax · oil on panel · scraped texture · abstract seascape
A multi-layered 3:2 landscape painting using oil mixed with cold wax medium on heavy birch board. The artist builds up dense layers of turquoise, pewter, deep sea navy, and raw ochre, then aggressively scrapes back the surface with squeegees and palette knives to expose underlying colors. The breaking wave appears as an elemental force of nature, its frothy white water recorded through rough impasto and veil-like glazes of semi-translucent wax. Submerged currents and sandbars are hinted at through stratified horizontal scratches, producing an evocative balance between atmospheric ocean realism and rugged material abstraction.
