Turquoise Ice Cracks of Lake Baikal Beneath the Winter Ecliptic
lake baikal · frozen lake · ice fissures · winter astrophotography
Winter astrophotography on the thick, transparent ice of Lake Baikal in Siberia before dawn. In the foreground, luminous turquoise pressure ridges and geometric white fracture lines run deep into the clear black ice. Rising above the distant snowy mountain shoreline, the winter sky presents an immaculate alignment of bright planetary points along the celestial ecliptic. Venus casts a faint shimmering streak of light across the smooth glazed ice, while Saturn and Mars shine steadily in the upper cobalt reaches. The sub-zero atmosphere is completely still and crystalline, eliminating atmospheric distortion so each planet appears as a pinpoint of pure, piercing light. Beautiful cool palette of cyan, sapphire, and soft periwinkle.
