Plein Air Linen Weave Study of Painted Desert Rim
plein air · oil on linen · painterly · desert rim
A spontaneous plein air landscape in oil on exposed natural linen, depicting the overlook of a polychrome desert basin. Vigorous, direct brush strokes leave the rough linen texture exposed around the periphery, creating a raw studio sketch feel. Saturated streaks of cadmium red, pink feldspar, and golden ochre define crumbling erosion terraces dropping away in the foreground. Sharp, blinding mid-afternoon light establishes intense contrast against stark ultramarine shadows lurking beneath cliff eaves. Loose, confident calligraphic marks describe scattered scrub brush clinging to rocky shelves, capturing the fleeting, sun-drenched atmosphere of an artist working directly before nature.
